Official November 2009 LAN Feedback Thread 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 5
Thanks all for attending our Fall LAN Party. Now we're looking for feedback. Let us know what we did well, what we did poorly, which admins were helpful, which ones were not, any criticisms you had about the venue, and anything else you think is worth sharing.

Thanks for attending!

Re:Official November 2009 LAN Feedback Thread 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hey!

Well I am finally recovered from the LAN. I feel as though I wussed out a little, I probably could have played longer saturday night/sunday morning but the prospect of then having to be packing up at 5:30 am was not attractive so we pulled out early at around 1:30am. It would have been much nicer if the 'get out' time was more like 8am or something like that so I could have played till 4am, cought a couple hours and then packed up. Not a big deal over all but worth noting. I know a lot of people leave long before we did but I am one who will stay for the durration.

The meals were EXCELENT! First LAN I've been to that has had breakfast of any kind. Those muffins were great and you cant beat Sunny D. Subway Lunch was awesome, you had a great sandwich artist. The pizza was great, albiet a bit cold and I was even one of the first in line. Minor detail of course gotta love Bacon pizza. I brought a sturdy supply of PB an J because i usually go hungry at LANs other than ours due to lack of food (Cough...MPCON), but I only had to eat one, you guys did a great job of keeping me full for a reasonable price!

The environment was great, albiet the temperature swings were pretty extreme at times, but thats nothing you guys could do anything about...just had to keep the sweatshirt handy for when the AC was cranking and the cool drinks for when the heat was blasting . Interesting environmental controls they have there in that hall! I had zero network or power problems which is a plus, couple people around me had minor network issues in the beginning but Jonas took care of them in short order. The chairs were absolutely horrible, but again, not much you could do about that. My back is still sore...they are great I'm sure for those chairs intended purpose which I am sure does not include massive gaming marathons . But like I said, overall the environment was great, it was not too crowded or anything, nice and dark and the perfect size for your crowd. Was a big plus to have a separate, dark and quiet sleeping room!

The raffle was overall pretty lackluster, more could probably have been done to make it a little more exciting even if there werent a lot of great prizes to be had. Its a buzzkill when every other person that was called comes up and says "hey what did I win that I don't want", but part of that is mass personality disorders, but some part could be done by you folks to liven it up a little. Glad that we could help out by providing a few prizes that we had left over from our last event.

I cant really comment on any tournaments as I did not play in any, however there was a decent amount of grumbling around me about the TF2 tournament being cobbled together, but thats just what the folks around us were saying that were playing so I dont know if they were just being stupid or what.

We played MW2 99% of the time and had a great time doing it, there was actually a decent amount of people playing it there, however we played with the other group of MW2 players once, pretty much embarassingly rolled them and they ragequit, so that was the extent of our playing with the people at the lan, but it was nice to know that we were able to, at least once

Overall a great lan, I had a really great time and so did the rest of the SLP folks that were with me. I will definately be back! Thanks for a great lan!

Glad you had fun - keep the comments coming!

I will take a second to respond to things when I can (not to be defensive about anything, just to let you guys know if there was an actual reason we made some of the choices we did) and I see one thing in Wingnut's post to expand on:

The teardown time has fluctuated in the past between 8am and earlier times. It seems no matter which time we pick people tend to start tearing down at 4am or so, and once a certain number of people start, it begins to accelerate and pretty soon it's just admins sitting there playing and empty stations for the people who wanted to get some sleep before they left. So we've started bumping the time forward, but it's good to see that we have some people who would have liked to stick it out a little (even if just to sleep for a few hours before driving - which is important).

I believe we actually had the venue available to us until noon or even later, so perhaps in the future we will put on the schedule a "recuperation" time or something after teardown, when people will be allowed to use the sleeping area until a certain time provided they've torn their gear down so we can clean up the playing room. Just a thought...

I had a good time guys, thanks! I suppose i wasnt there for a long time so i cant really give much feedback, but the L4D Tourny went pretty smoothly, except for really strange rules: 1) Dead air only for every match, 2) Killing the server at the end of the tournament before the match was over.
Other then that, i enjoyed this smaller venue more than the larger one you had in the warehouse, as it seemed more "homely" for some reason. Also, i have to add that the quantity of attractive college girls passing by on friday night was a bonus LoL, perhaps w/ an exception of the bimbo's that started walking around to everyone in the room, likely drunk, saying "let me guess, you're playing cod?" (Prounounced "Cod" as in "cod fish" haha.

Looking forward to the next one.

The server killing wasn't intentional at all - srcds just randomly decided it wanted to crash. If it had crashed during the tournament, we would have either restarted the entire match or the round itself.

Prizes were lacking, but so were sponsors, so I'm not going complain. The Shock Coffee one was actually pretty amazing. It would be cool let people choose what prizes they are entered into. That way there are less complaints.

Food was great, pizza variety is always a plus. Though I thought the subs were far better.

More gamecube controllers, I'm looking at you AdmiralHuey.

Move Rock Band away from the PC tables, its obnoxiously loud for those that have to sit right by it.

Haha, I know what you mean (the admin table being right next to the console that was used the most for that) Unfortunately in that small venue we didn't have much choice, but we can try and get it a little further in the future (or turn the volume down a little).

I only say that because I asked about needed extra controllers and you only mentioned N64 ones.

Wouldn't it be possible to switch Rock Band with the station that actually had a TV? Seems like that would put it at a better distance for everyone.

It was indeed about 10 feet further away - not sure it would have made much difference sound-wise, but we'll keep it in mind for next time. The biggest problem with that game as far as volume goes is that the players really do need to hear it - not quite as loud as they were playing it at the LAN, granted, but it is pretty crucial.

Pros: Very friendly staff, great food and service.

Cons: Bad controllers. I only got to use one GC controller that was broken, but my friend used several others and according to him they were all malfunctioning in some way? The pregame Brawl setup felt like a handicap raffle or something

Wasup Wingnut it's Charlie from [MYTH] =) Just had to comment, 'cause I am the fat guy wit the big mouth... If you can figure out how to keep 300 plus people fed for three days AND pay a $3000 room/electric bill without losing money we would be happy to provide a few meals.

But I know it was all in fun so please do not be like the rest that are about to flame me and think I was being an ass towards you.

Say Hi to your Wife and the rest of the [SLP] Family for me!

Re:Official November 2009 LAN Feedback Thread 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
From the moment that I began to step my feet into the BSG LAN room, I suddenly noticed this wasn't just any LAN party where just a couple friends sat down and played games together, this was more than that. From the instance I sat down in my mistakenly unresevered seat, I felt that I knew everyone, but at the same time I didn't. The people where open, and even more so, as polite as any gamer is to an anonymous individual, that goes for the admins aswell, despite the fact I had only conversed with a number of them (About two or three), and even then, I was able to notice that the vast majority of the Admins, where the ones making the impression on BSG, a good impression.

Let's talk about them, the Admins.

Now when you think about Admins, the words like 'Power' and 'Superior' come to mind, sure, they migh've been walking around with fancy BSG T-shirts with ADMIN stamped on the back of it, but behind their fancy apparel, they acted as immature and tolerant as us normal gamers are, but that's a good thing, because just acted just as that; normal gamers. They were as normal as us, and we didn't feel singled out as only guests, we all felt like friends.

Speaking out to the Admins, you guys made an impression on us, with your behaviour, and your hard work for keeping BSG an unforgettably organized event. But the people, that made this event so impacting, were the players, I have a feeling they made it as unforgettable for the Admins, as the Admins made it as equally persistent.

And not to mention the prizes, they weren't top of the line, but atleast they endured the trouble of adding some spice to the event. Good job on the prizes, I bet the winners of the Tournaments and raffles(I gots me a fan) are enjoying their prizes, even if they arn't, they should be thankful you guys went through the lengthy time to get them for us.

And I can't let this go without giving constructive feedback as to the snacks and drinks. In my opinion, you guys could have done more with the breakfast, the lunch was okay, and I didn't have dinner, but I've hear alot of good feedback from the variety and the preparations. But if there is one thing I would give the most positive feedback from in this paragraph, it would be the drinks. The variety of the drinks was wide, I've never had the G33k B33R or the Cheer Bawls, but I do have to say I enjoyed every sip of them, and the Shock Energy drinks were very good as well, and water was a must for anyone that's looking to cut down on their caffeine intake.

And with that, I leave you my feedback, I hope you take it for granted.

Thank you BSG, for making my eyes feel like they where beating in the same rhythmic algorythm as my heart, and for poising our bodies with litres of caffeine, for 36 straight hours.
