We'd love to hear what you have to say about our latest event - what we did wrong, what we did right, and what should be done in the future. Good, bad, or ugly - just comment on this post (http://www.bigshotgaming.com/37/) and tell us what you think!

If you'd be so kind as to fill out our survey (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VSRYQ5N) for the LAN, we'd certainly appreciate that too!

BSG MegaLAN XV Final Update

Written by tom

April 6, 2013, 9:31 p.m.

Hey Big Shot Gamers!

We're all sold out for the upcoming LAN, and that's wonderful! Next weekend is going to be great; we're all very excited to bring another excellent Big Shot Gaming event to the Central Michigan University community and beyond. We figured that since there's only six days to go, we should probably update you with some stuff you'll need to know for the LAN.

Things that are significantly different from previous LANs: a) You will need to bring your own 25 foot Ethernet cord. b) There is no lunch on Saturday.

1. Stuff for sale
We will have Bawls, bottled water, BSG T-shirts, and possibly other refreshments and snacks for sale. We will also be selling 25 foot Ethernet cables in case you forget yours or you do not have one; they will be $5 each. We accept credit cards, so don't worry about having to carry around a bunch of singles all weekend.

2. Parking for the event
Parking is free on CMU's campus for the whole weekend, but please make sure you park in one of the commuter lots (lots with a 'C' on the lot sign). If you park in a lot that is not a commuter lot, you are likely to get ticketed and/or towed; please check the CMU campus map for more details. (http://bit.ly/U33jjz) Suggested parking lots are Lot 18 (directly next to the venue, Finch Fieldhouse), Lot 27, and Lot 28.

If you need an address for Google Maps or the like: E Preston St & Franklin St, Mt Pleasant, MI 48858

3. Check-In
The doors will not be opening until 6 PM on Friday; please leave your computer in your car until you are fully checked-in. Staff will be standing by the large overhead door on the South end of Finch to ensure that only attendees with badges may enter; if you try to enter without a badge, you will be directed to check-in at the Finch main doors first. There will be carts available to assist attendees with loading and unloading, so do not worry about having to carry your computer a million miles. You are, of course, welcome to check-in at any time if you are playing in a tournament that has not yet started - however, we must ask that you check-in an hour before your desired tournament starts

4. Waivers
Please print out and sign a copy of our waiver located at http://www.bigshotgaming.com/media/events/waivers/waiver.pdf - we won't have many on-hand, so do make sure that you print your own.

5. Event Guidelines
Please note that alcohol/drugs are strictly forbidden from the event; if you are caught with either, you will be removed from the event and CMU Police will be contacted for your protection. We also do not permit any form of illegal filesharing at our event; attendees caught torrenting will be removed from the event. All other rules from the waiver apply, and you must follow directions given by the event staff.

6. Interested in helping?
If you're interested in helping out with future Big Shot Gaming events, visit our Volunteer page. (http://www.bigshotgaming.com/volunteer) We can always use people to help run our events, and the more admins we have, the higher quality of an event we are able to run.

7. Sponsorship
We've had three excellent sponsors step up to the plate and provide prizes for our upcoming LAN; we're really excited to announce that the CMU Bookstore, Roccat, and Thermaltake are all sponsoring our upcoming LAN! Tournaments have excellent prizes, and there should be some really good stuff showing up for giveaway as well.

8. Everything else
If you've got any further questions (what to bring, where to eat, where to sleep), visit our Events FAQ (http://www.bigshotgaming.com/events/faq) - if there's something that hasn't been answered, you can always contact us via our website, Facebook, or Twitter and we'll give you a hand.

We're excited to see you all on Friday, and have a great week!

Big Shot Gaming MegaLAN XV Update

Written by tom

March 21, 2013, 3:44 p.m.

Hey Big Shot Gamers,

We're getting close to the final stretch here, so we figured a quick update regarding the upcoming LAN was in order.

1) Attendance
Due to not hitting our expected participation levels, we've had to decrease the number of total seats from 240 to 200. Those extra 40 seats required advance notice of need, and we decided it'd be best to just remove them altogether.

That does mean, however, at this point in time there are 57 seats available. Do sign up quickly; we are NOT accepting registrations at-the-door. You'll still be entered into the preregistration raffle, so do not worry about that.

2) Seatmap
In accordance with the total seatcount change, we're also going to be modifying the seatmap by removing two table banks, one on the left side, and one on the middle. This means that if you are sitting there, you will be reseated somewhere else.

3) Food/Beverages/T-Shirts
We will have chips and candy available for sale at the LAN, as well as Bawls and water. BSG T-Shirts will also be available in many different sizes for $15 each.

4) Sponsorship
We haven't updated you much on this yet this year, but we'd like to let you know that all of our tournaments have prizing support, so don't worry about that. At a minimum, first and second places will be paid for all tournaments. StarCraft II still has a guaranteed paid third place, with that cash prize pool that we've talked about in the past.

5) Tournament Signups
Please sign your teams up for their respective tournaments soon at http://www.bigshotgaming.com/tournaments/. This allows us to build an accurate participation count for each tournament, so that we have a better idea of how many people we're going to need to help run tournaments.

That's all for now; we will update you one week before the LAN with more information and details about waivers/parking/everything you need to know for the event itself. See you very soon!

Big Shot Gaming MegaLAN XV Tournament Rules & Updates

Written by tom

Feb. 28, 2013, 12:46 p.m.

Hi Big Shot Gamers!

Good news - we've finalized the rules and maplists for all of the tournaments at our upcoming LAN! As always, they're viewable at http://www.bigshotgaming.com/tournaments - you're more than welcome to start creating your teams now in preparation for the LAN! We're accepting feedback on these rules and maplists for the next week - just comment on this newspost at http://www.bigshotgaming.com to make your opinion known.

Other quick updates - we've officially decided that the StarCraft II tournament will become a Heart of the Swarm tournament. With the imminent release on March 12th of HotS, the tournament admins for StarCraft II have decided that HotS should be the wave of the future.

We've also decided to offer a PRE-REGISTRATION raffle this year - three winners will each receive a $20 CMU Bookstore gift card, usable during the LAN at either the CMU Bookstore or Microchips in the Bovee University Center. The earlier you register for the LAN, the more chances you have at winning this prize, so make sure you sign up and pay ASAP for your best shot at winning.

Sponsorship is rolling along, and we expect to have a big update for you in the next two weeks.

We've also got another surprise for you this year: ALL of the tournaments we're having will be casted and displayed on projectors within the Fieldhouse - not just StarCraft II. This should make for a much more competitive atmosphere, and we're very excited to be able to put this together for you.

That should be about it for this update, and we will be in touch in the next couple weeks!

Six weeks until the LAN!

Big Shot Gaming MegaLAN XV Schedule Update

Written by tom

Feb. 5, 2013, 11:23 p.m.

Hi Big Shot Gamers!

We've got some good news and some bad news for all of you regarding the upcoming LAN.

First, the bad news - due to an error on the part of the University, our venue was double-booked for Sunday. This means that we had to change the start/end time to 6PM Friday, April 12 to 6AM Sunday, April 14. If you've already signed up and cannot attend, please do contact us - we're happy to offer refunds.

Now for the good news:
Our schedule is mainly complete at this point in time, and we've got it available at http://www.bigshotgaming.com/schedule/ - notice that tournaments do not start until 9PM Friday evening, so you'll have a chance to get out of work and get up to the event before everything gets rolling.

We've also announced that the Starcraft II tournament will be a cash-prize tournament - $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $25 for third place. There is, of course, no additional entry fee specifically for that tournament - we want to see Michigan's best players come out of the woodwork to win some video games.

Finally, other planning for the upcoming event is coming along well - we're putting together a schedule for semi-organized free play, so there should be something for everyone at our LAN! We've also got a couple other things up our sleeves that we're not ready to reveal yet - but make sure you get signed up for the LAN soon! Just over two months to go!
